PERRY HALL HS: 0
Franklin's JV field hockey team had their first game of the season against Perry Hall and came away with the win.
Franklin had possession of the ball and multiple shots on goal in the first half but could not beat the Gator's goalie. The girls came out strong in the second half and freshman midfielder Ava Mowrey scored what would be the game winner on a penalty stroke. She calmly stepped up to the spot and placed her hard shot to the goalie's right. Perry Hall came storming back but freshman goalie Megan Wagner stood tall, making 3 saves and clears and even stopping a Perry Hall penalty stroke. Sophomore Hailey Ciufo, playing on the left wing, scored the insurance goal midway through the half. Freshman Alaina Hetrick had multiple shots on goal from the high attack position. Right wing freshman Cayley Franz had great positioning on the post and used her speed to chase down free hits. Midfielder Kennedy Lee played a strong game as well, feeding the ball up to the forwards and pressuring the Gator's backfield. Freshmen midfielders Alyssa Frazier and Nasirat Kukoyi-Jonas worked hard on positioning. The defensive trio of Danielle Szikman, Morgan Mowl, and Jordyn Baylin were strong in the backfield - clearing the ball out of the circle, hustling back, and strong free hits.
Shout out to freshmen Tithi Prajapati, Nikki Nudelman, and Melina Mendez and to sophomores Becca Scher and Priscilla Young for their hard work coming off the bench and learning new positions. Their positive attitude and willingness to learn makes it easy to put them in wherever they are needed.
Franklin's next game is at home against the Hereford Bulls on Thursday, Sept. 6. Game time is 5:15pm.
